Keith G. Thompson, P.G., C.Hg. - Principal Partner
Mr. Thompson is a geologist with 33 years of experience in environmental and hydrogeologic site investigations and project management. He has provided project management and field expertise on projects for the City of Los Angeles - Geotechnical Engineering Division/Group, Los Angeles Unified School District, Eric Realty Partners, AMERCO Real Estate Company / U-HAUL International, the Bray Terminals, the Orange County Transportation Authority, the City of Los Angeles Housing Authority, Mobil Oil, Exxon, and other clients.
Mr. Thompson has managed field activities for investigations at over 20 refineries, landfills, hazardous waste disposal facilities and other industrial sites in California, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. He has also performed site investigations involving the collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples at over 200 underground storage tank sites in California, Utah, Nevada, Texas, New York, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and New Mexico.
These investigations have involved the design and implementation of plans for the sampling and analysis of water and soil for diverse contaminants including; petroleum hydrocarbons, waste solvents and oils, PCB’s, inorganic constituents such as heavy metals, and pesticides. These plans included the design and installation of monitor well systems up to 550 feet deep, the use of many drilling techniques, and the use of a several analytical and field instruments for monitoring groundwater conditions and volatile organic vapors. A number of these investigations required coordination of health and safety procedures for level C and B personal protection equipment.
He has also conducted over 135 Phase I environmental site assessments in California, Nevada, and Texas. His work in southern California has allowed him to successfully interact with several county regulatory agencies including Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego counties. He has also worked extensively with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, all of the California Regional Water Quality Control Boards., and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
William E. Malvey – Principal Partner
Mr. Malvey has 35 years of diversified geologic and environmental project management experience. He worked as an exploration geologist in the Gulf of Mexico Region for a major multi-national oil company. He has been involved in the management of environmental site investigations and remedial activities for the past 30 years. He has successfully managed environmental projects for City of Los Angeles - Geotechnical Engineering Division, Los Angeles Unified School District, Unocal Corporation, Coca-Cola Enterprises, AMOCO Oil, Mobil Oil, California United Bank, AMERCO Real Estate Company, U-HAUL International, and several other large and small corporations.
As an exploration geologist, his initial responsibilities included the collection of basic field data during drilling operations, rock core collection and description, geophysical well logging, mud logger supervision, and seismic surveys. He was responsible for the well site geology for a 25,500-foot deep gas discovery well drilled offshore from Mobile, Alabama. He participated as a member of an integrated exploration team that successfully developed an exploration framework that resulted in several significant oil and gas discoveries in the deep water “Flex Trend” of the offshore Gulf of Mexico Region.
Mr. Malvey has successfully utilized his petroleum industry experience on several projects for clients who discovered oil wells or oil field related infrastructure on their sites. He is experienced in the current California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) well abandonment permitting and abandonment protocols and has utilized those protocols on several projects in Los Angeles.
Mr. Malvey has completed numerous Phase I site investigations in over 15 different states on sites ranging from single family homes to large industrial and manufacturing facilities. One project included working as a member of a nationwide team that completed 280 Phase I due diligence site assessments in less than 5 weeks for a major corporate client that was merging with its largest competitor. The successful completion of this project in a very short time resulted in the client saving several million dollars on the cost of the merger due to potential environmental risks identified by the assessments. He has conducted Phase I investigations in California, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland, and Michigan.
Mr. Malvey also has extensive experience in the area of underground storage tanks (UST’s) and has completed over 200 Phase II site assessments at UST facilities located in 26 different states including California, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and New Hampshire. The types of facilities have included large warehouse/distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, industrial sites, petroleum bulk plants, marine terminals, and various retail service stations sites.
Mr. Malvey has successfully designed, permitted, and installed several remediation systems. These systems have included soil vapor extraction systems, groundwater management systems, soil bioventing systems, and product recovery and management systems. Several systems required complicated permitting requirements for operation in southern California under the authority of the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Several groundwater treatment systems have required National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits issued under the authority of the US Environmental Protection Agency. He has also successfully completed projects under the direction of the Low Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
Mr. Malvey has been an FAA-licensed pilot since 1985 and is knowledgeable regarding civilian airport and aircraft operations. He is also an FAA Part 107 certified small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS or drone) pilot with eight years experience in aerial photography and mapping.
